Summary: The Holocaust And The Establishment Of The State Of Israel

The people who lived during the 1940's are witness to a most unusual, horrible, and devastating genocide, stopped only by a massive World War. They also witness the establishment of the State of Israel.

G-d guided the unusual circumstances which led to the destruction of one great community and He guided the unusual circumstances which led to the establishment of another.

Many feel that both are fulfillments of prophetic visions that were foretold and recorded some three-thousand years ago and preserved ever since.

The Torah foretells of great calamities. The Holocaust evokes a reference to them.

The Torah also foretells that the Jewish people will be expelled from the promised Land and they will eventually come back. Due to these events there are now a lot of Jews living in Israel.

We yearn and grope for meaning to these awesome events. What is G-d doing? Where are we heading? No one really knows. For some twenty-three hundred years now G-d has ceased to directly communicate with us.

As a result of the Holocaust, some people come closer to G-d and Torah observance and others grow further away. As a result of the State of Israel, some people come closer to G-d and Torah observance and others grew further away.

The prophets also foretell a glorious redemption, the Messianic Period and for over three millenniums we have yearned for it.

As history moves on from the establishment of the State of Israel, it becomes clear that the Messianic Period is yet to arrive. Some believe that it has at least started. As time marches along, even this belief becomes increasingly shrouded in doubt.

We have a Holocaust, some sort of a fulfillment of prophecy with a lot of people living in the Holy Land, and we still have free-will. G-d wanted this to happen to us and to our parents.
